This excerpt from a DVRPC case study provides an overview of Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS). An important component of a CSS approach is that it links driving behavior with the perception of the surrounding context. Traffic calming techniques are often implemented as a component of a complete CSS strategy. Traffic calming aims to reduce the speed and volume of traffic to a level appropriate for the type of roadway and the surrounding land use context.
